Moving is challenging enough—but when you have a big family, it's an even bigger project. Between kids, pets, and piles of boxes, staying organized is key.
1. Start Planning Early
Large-family moves take more coordination. Create a moving calendar 6–8 weeks in advance. Assign each family member small, age-appropriate tasks.
2. Declutter as a Family
More people means more stuff! Go room by room and decide what stays, what gets donated, and what can be tossed.
3. Pack by Person (and Label Everything)
Give each family member their own color-coded boxes or tape so unpacking is easy.
4. Create a Family Essentials Box
Pack a large tote with things you'll all need immediately: snacks, toiletries, chargers, and changes of clothes.
5. Keep Kids Entertained on Moving Day
If your children are young, arrange childcare or set up a "fun station" with coloring books, tablets, or snacks.
6. Prepare for the First Night
Pack a "first night" box with pajamas, bedding, toothbrushes, and favorite comfort items for the kids.
7. Communicate Clearly with Your Movers
Let your moving team know about any special requests, fragile items, or high-priority boxes.
8. Take It One Step at a Time
Moving a large family is a marathon, not a sprint. Focus on one room or one task at a time.
