1. Gather the Right Supplies
Before packing, stock up on:
- Sturdy boxes in various sizes
- Bubble wrap
- Packing paper
- Foam sheets
- Tape
- "Fragile" stickers or markers
2. Wrap Each Item Individually
Never let fragile items touch each other. Wrap each piece completely in packing paper, then bubble wrap for extra protection.
3. Use the Right Box Size
Use smaller boxes for heavy fragile items. This prevents overpacking and crushing.
4. Create a Cushion Layer
Line the bottom of each box with crumpled paper or foam. Items should never touch the box walls or bottom directly.
5. Pack Strategically
- Place heaviest items on the bottom
- Fill ALL empty spaces with padding
- Don't overfill boxes
- Tape boxes securely
6. Label Clearly
Mark boxes "FRAGILE" on multiple sides. Add "THIS SIDE UP" arrows where applicable.
7. Special Items Need Special Care
- **Dishes**: Pack vertically like records
- **Glasses**: Use cell boxes or individual wrapping
- **Electronics**: Use original boxes when possible
- **Artwork**: Use specialty picture boxes or custom crating
- **Mirrors**: Tape an X on glass, wrap completely
8. Communicate with Movers
Point out fragile boxes to your moving team. They'll give them extra attention.
